Ultrasonic Thickness Gauge
Precision Ultrasonic Thickness Measurement for Corrosion Monitoring and Quality Control
CCNDT ultrasonic thickness gauges provide accurate, non-destructive wall thickness measurement for metals, plastics, ceramics, and glass. From handheld portable gauges for spot inspections to automated multi-point thickness gauging stations for in-line production monitoring, our solutions cover the full spectrum of thickness measurement needs in manufacturing and in-service inspection.
Measurement Principle
Ultrasonic thickness gauges determine material thickness by measuring the time-of-flight of an ultrasonic pulse traveling through the material and reflecting back from the opposite surface. Using calibrated sound velocity values for the specific material, the instrument calculates thickness with high precision. Dual-element probes compensate for surface roughness and thin-wall measurements, while single-element probes handle thicker sections.
- Pulse-echo time-of-flight measurement principle
- Material-specific sound velocity calibration
- Dual-element probes for thin-wall and rough-surface applications
- Single-element probes for thick-section measurement
Product Range
CCNDT offers both portable handheld thickness gauges and automated thickness gauging stations. Portable units feature compact design, long battery life, and onboard data storage for field corrosion surveys and spot checks. Automated stations such as the RB-T500 series provide in-line multi-point thickness mapping for production-line quality control, supporting continuous monitoring of pipes, tanks, and plate products.
- Portable handheld gauges for field and spot inspection
- Automated multi-point thickness gauging stations for in-line QC
- Onboard data storage with PC download capability
- Corrosion mapping and remaining wall thickness assessment
- Support for metals, plastics, ceramics, and glass
Application Scenarios
Thickness gauges are essential tools for corrosion monitoring in oil and gas pipelines, chemical processing vessels, marine structures, and power plant boilers. They are equally critical in manufacturing quality control for verifying wall thickness compliance in tubes, pipes, pressure vessels, and machined components before shipment.
- Pipeline and vessel corrosion monitoring
- Boiler tube and heat exchanger wall thickness verification
- Manufacturing QC for tubes, pipes, and pressure vessels
- Marine hull and offshore structure inspection
- Aerospace component thickness verification
