Phased Array Flaw Detector

Advanced Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing for Precision Weld and Structural Inspection

CCNDT phased array flaw detectors leverage multi-element probe technology to electronically steer, focus, and sweep ultrasonic beams without mechanical movement. These instruments enable rapid, high-resolution inspection of welds, forgings, turbine components, and complex structures with real-time sectorial and linear scanning imaging.

Phased Array Technology

Unlike conventional single-element ultrasonic testing, phased array systems individually control the firing delay of each element in a multi-crystal probe. This allows electronic beam steering across a range of angles, dynamic focusing at multiple depths, and rapid sectorial or linear scans—all from a single probe assembly. The result is significantly faster coverage and more complete defect characterization compared to traditional UT.

  • Electronic beam steering and focusing without mechanical movement
  • Sectorial (S-scan) and linear (E-scan) imaging modes
  • Real-time cross-sectional visualization of weld profiles and internal features
  • Multi-angle inspection from a single probe position

Key Features

CCNDT phased array instruments integrate PAUT, TOFD, and conventional A-scan capabilities in a single platform. Built-in workpiece models for common joint configurations—including butt welds, T-joints, fillet welds, and pipe welds—simplify setup and interpretation. Full-angle TCG/DAC compensation, ACG correction, and focused beam simulation enhance inspection accuracy across varying material thicknesses and geometries.

  • PAUT + TOFD + A-scan triple-mode capability
  • Pre-loaded workpiece models for standard weld configurations
  • Full-angle TCG/DAC and ACG compensation
  • Real-time focused beam line simulation overlay
  • High-resolution color display for field and laboratory use

Applications

Phased array flaw detectors are widely used for weld inspection in pressure vessels, pipelines, shipbuilding, and power generation, as well as for forging and casting evaluation in aerospace and automotive manufacturing. The ability to inspect complex geometries and access-restricted areas makes phased array particularly valuable for in-service inspection and maintenance programs.

  • Weld inspection in pressure vessels, pipelines, and shipbuilding
  • Forging and casting defect evaluation
  • Turbine blade and disk inspection
  • In-service corrosion mapping and remaining wall assessment
  • Railway axle and wheelset examination
