Extended Oil Pipeline

Long-Distance Pipeline Integrity Management with Ultrasonic Inspection

Long-distance oil and gas transmission pipelines spanning hundreds to thousands of kilometers represent critical national energy infrastructure requiring systematic integrity management throughout their operational lifetime. Ultrasonic inline inspection, guided wave screening, and targeted phased array examination form a layered inspection strategy that detects corrosion, cracks, weld defects, and third-party damage across the entire pipeline network. CCNDT provides ultrasonic instruments and inspection technologies supporting comprehensive pipeline integrity programs from commissioning through decommissioning.

Inline Inspection Programs

Periodic ultrasonic inline inspection using intelligent pigging tools is the cornerstone of long-distance pipeline integrity management. Modern ultrasonic ILI tools employ multi-channel sensor arrays to measure wall thickness, detect metal loss features, identify cracks, and characterize girth welds in a single run. Data comparison across successive inspections enables corrosion growth rate analysis and remaining life prediction, supporting risk-based inspection interval optimization.

  • Multi-channel ultrasonic ILI for corrosion, crack, and weld feature detection
  • Successive run data comparison for corrosion growth rate tracking
  • Crack-like feature discrimination from geometric and metallurgical signals
  • Risk-based inspection interval optimization supported by ILI trending data

Station & Crossing Inspection

Pipeline compressor stations, pump stations, metering facilities, and river/highway/railway crossings contain concentrated weld populations and complex geometries that inline tools cannot access. Field-deployable phased array ultrasonic systems provide detailed volumetric inspection of station piping, valve bodies, and crossing casings. Ultrasonic thickness surveys at these locations monitor erosion-corrosion and external corrosion rates for maintenance planning.

  • Station piping and valve body phased array weld inspection
  • River and highway crossing casing annulus inspection
  • Erosion-corrosion monitoring at bends, tees, and reducers
  • Field-portable systems with battery operation for remote site deployment

Guided Wave Screening & Targeted Examination

Long-range ultrasonic guided wave testing screens tens of meters of pipe from a single transducer ring position, rapidly identifying areas of concern for targeted follow-up examination. This technique is particularly valuable for inspecting insulated, buried, or otherwise inaccessible pipe sections where conventional point-by-point ultrasonic testing would be prohibitively slow. CCNDT's guided wave instruments complement ILI data by providing above-ground verification and screening of segments not accessible to inline tools.

  • Screening of insulated and buried pipe sections without coating removal
  • Rapid identification of corrosion clusters and anomalous features
  • Above-ground verification of ILI findings at selected locations
  • Integration with ILI and direct assessment data for comprehensive integrity assessment
