Power System
Reliable NDT Solutions for Power Generation and Transmission Equipment
Power generation, transmission, and distribution infrastructure relies on the structural integrity of transformers, switchgear, insulators, bus bars, and high-voltage connections operating continuously under electrical and mechanical stress. Ultrasonic testing plays a vital role in detecting internal insulation defects, partial discharge sources, weld flaws in bus ducts, and degradation in ceramic and composite insulators. CCNDT provides specialized ultrasonic instruments and automated inspection systems designed for the unique demands of power system equipment manufacturing and in-service assessment.
Transformer & Reactor Inspection
Power transformers contain complex internal insulation systems of oil-impregnated paper, pressboard barriers, and winding supports that degrade over decades of service. Ultrasonic partial discharge detection locates active discharge sources within the tank, while pulse-echo testing assesses insulation barrier integrity and detects moisture-induced delamination. These methods complement dissolved gas analysis and electrical tests for comprehensive transformer condition assessment.
- Ultrasonic partial discharge source localization inside transformer tanks
- Insulation barrier delamination and moisture ingress detection
- Winding clamping force assessment via ultrasonic velocity measurement
- On-site portable inspection for substation maintenance programs
Insulator & Bushing Testing
Ceramic and composite insulators and bushings are critical high-voltage components whose internal defects—cracks, voids, and interface degradation—can lead to flashover and grid outages. Specialized ultrasonic probes with爬波 (creeping wave) and shear wave modes detect internal flaws in porcelain bodies, cement joints, and silicone rubber housings without disassembly. CCNDT's dedicated insulator testing instruments include pre-loaded calibration curves for common insulator types.
- Internal crack and void detection in porcelain post insulators
- Cement joint and metal-fitting interface integrity assessment
- Composite insulator rod-housing interface debond detection
- Portable instruments with built-in standards for field use at substations
Bus Duct & Connection Weld Inspection
High-current bus ducts, generator leads, and grounding connections contain welded and bolted joints whose integrity is essential for safe power delivery. Ultrasonic phased array inspection of bus bar welds detects lack of fusion, cracking, and corrosion erosion that could cause overheating or arc faults. Regular ultrasonic thickness monitoring tracks wall loss in bus enclosures and connection hardware exposed to environmental corrosion.
- Phased array weld inspection of aluminum and copper bus ducts
- Bolted connection contact resistance correlation with ultrasonic assessment
- Corrosion thickness monitoring of bus enclosures and grounding structures
- Digital reporting compliant with power utility asset management standards
